Is Beverly Archer Still Alive? 5 Fascinating Facts About Mama’s Family Star Beverly Archer

I remember growing up watching TV sitcoms as a kid. That was before the internet, smartphones, and Netflix, when television was the only platform for entertainment media.

One actor I can never forget is Beverly Archer, the kind but somewhat annoying neighbor to Thelma Harper, Iola Lucille Boylen, in one of my favorite NBC shows, Mama’s Family.

Every scene she was in, always involved with the Harper family’s business, was ridiculously and memorably hilarious.

If you’re a fan of Beverly Archer’s work like I am, here are five fascinating facts you should know about the popular 80s comedy actor and some updates on her life.

She Grew Up In Illinois

Before her stint with national television, Beverly Archer grew up in a Jewish family in America’s pumpkin capital, Illinois.

As a young kid, Beverly already showed great passion for acting. When she was in high school, Beverly took part in several drama productions.

In love with acting, she would choose to pursue the arts as a career. She enrolled at San Francisco State University and UC Santa Barbara, majoring in drama.

She Acted In Many Hit 90s TV Shows

Besides her iconic role as the perpetually annoying neighbor living across the Harpers in Mama’s Family, Beverly acted in many hit TV shows in the 90s.

After retiring from the long-running NBC sitcom, she became the prim and proper Gunnery Sgt. Alva “Gunner” Bricker in the early ‘90s boot camp series, Major Dad.

Then in 1996, Beverly landed the role of the amusing but absolutely apathetic researcher, Dr. Carnage, in Project: ALF.

Another favorite of mine was her role as the tough-as-nail but secretly in-love librarian in Married… with Children. Let me tell you, she was always a joy to watch in all her appearances!

She Was a Writer

Did you know Beverly Archer was also a talented writer?

As it turns out, Beverly contributed to writing several episodes of Mama’s Family, which may well be the secret behind the comical charm of Iola Lucille Boylen!

She Was Falsely Rumored Dead in 2012

Rumors of Beverly Archer’s sudden death began circulating back in 2012. Many of the actor’s fans, including myself, were shocked and greatly saddened by this news.

As it happens, it was only a case of fabricated hoax to stir drama.

In an interview with Sitcoms Online, Beverly revealed that she was just as stunned after getting news of her own death. “I’m still here. I’m not dead,” she jokingly clarified in the interview.

“I appreciate all the kind thoughts that I read. You don’t often see what people say about you after you’re dead,” Beverly added.

She Retired From Acting In 2012

Beverly Archer is currently retired and (apparently) intends to stay that way.

She now lives in Santa Monica, California with her husband of 48 years, Robert Bernard, enjoying life privately after a long successful career.

Final Thoughts

Beverly Archer is one of those actors you’d see once or twice but never forget. She enjoyed and loved doing comedy, and her passion became evident with the memorable impact she had on screen.
