Francic Ellis: From Harvard to Comedian, Fired by Barstool Sports for Inappropriate Jokes about Missing Female College Student, Where is He Now?

A Harvard grad turned comedian.

Sounds far-fetched, doesn’t it? Francis Ellis is a live example of this oddity, and we’re all here for it!

But his story doesn’t end with becoming a comedian; he was also involved in a controversial incident with Barstool Sports. Here’s everything we know about the topic:

Who Is Francis Ellis?

Francis has a way with words that can have you rolling on the floor laughing or scratching your head in disbelief. He’s that quirky friend who always has a story to tell.

His graduation from Harvard is a point of pride in his life, and he references it in many of his interviews and performances. He started practicing stand-up comedy while in college, laying the foundation for his later career.

At the peak of his career, Francis Ellis made a name for himself as a writer and comedian at Barstool Sports, the digital media company that’s famous for stirring the pot. That came after he won Barstool Idol in 2016, a competition that showcases new talent.

While it might have seemed like a big break for him at the time, it ended up being the turning point of his life.

Francis Ellis: The Barstool Incident

It was the summer of 2019, and everything was going great for Francis Ellis. He was a writer and the host of a morning radio show on Barstool Sports called Barstool Breakfast, along with Large and Willie Colon.

That lasted beautifully until he wrote a controversial article that turned things around for him.

The comedian wrote an article mocking a missing Utah college student called Mackenzie, posting inappropriate jokes about the woman’s social media presence.

Francis used Mackenzie’s social media following and profile on an online dating service as laughing material, making fun of her use of the phrase (proud sugar baby) on her profiles.

Tragically, Mackenzie was found dead hours after the article was posted.

As usual, the internet backlash was violent against Francis, and as a result, Barstool Sports decided to part ways with the comedian.

Francis Ellis: The Comeback

After the dust settled, Francis Ellis had some explaining to do about the inappropriate article. He used his social media platforms to publicly apologize and express his regret.

He admitted his mistake and didn’t dodge the blame, which gained him some sympathy from old fans.

Luckily, Francis didn’t let this misstep define the rest of his career, and he rose back to doing stand-up shows, making YouTube videos, and co-hosting a podcast, Oops the Podcast, with Giulio Gallarotti.

The name of the podcast, Oops, reflects its theme, which is discussing errors in life and career, adding a comedic twist to serious life situations.

In 2022, Barstool brought him back, and he has regained his position as a content creator who appears in live shows, sketches, and podcasts.

Francis Ellis: Where Can You Find Him Now?

If you’re itching to see Francis Ellis in action, you’ll be glad to know that he’s pretty active on social media. He shares snippets of his life that show he still has that Harvard wit with a healthy dose of humility.

In addition to his loud presence on X and Instagram, you’ll also find Francis Ellis going on tours to bring comedy to people all around. He has upcoming performances scheduled across the U.S., including San Diego and Kansas City.

The Oops the Podcast is another way to connect with Francis, as he pokes fun at himself while dishing out some deep thoughts. Finally, he’s a regular contributor to Jesse Watters Primetime, which is a political talk show.
