How Small Improvements Make Big Lifestyle Changes?

Sometimes, I feel like my home can do more, but I can’t quite put my finger on what “more” means. Do I want new furniture? Should I get a few new plants? Do I need a big renovation or will just a few decor pieces do the trick?

I think most people feel this way sooner or later but they refrain from doing anything because renovations are expensive and making a few small changes won’t do what they’re supposed to do. And I agree, renovations can cost a pretty penny, but I wholeheartedly disagree with the opinion that a small change can’t make a big difference. Say you added a cozy reading nook to an empty corner. In an instant, that’s your new favorite escape.

Or maybe you swap out harsh lighting with something softer and more relaxing. All of a sudden, your living room feels like home instead of a dentist’s office.

These small little things you change will improve how your home looks and, more importantly, the way you live. And, best of all, they don’t need a lot of time and money.

Don’t believe me? Keep reading and you’ll see I’m right.

The Benefits of Small Home Improvements

You know how decluttering feels like you’re breathing again? Well, clearing out clutter can be your small change that makes a big difference. If I’m feeling lazy and uninspired but I know I want to do something with my house, I’ll just declutter and it will momentarily make me feel better.

Just recently, I took some time to clean up my desk. It only took me about 20 minutes to do and now, working is far more enjoyable.

If I’m not decluttering, I’m making tweaks here and there and the reason why I like this so much is because it gives me a sense of pride once I’m done. Not just because I did something, but I just feel proud of my home. I’m like, “Look at this, isn’t this room phenomenal?”

One of my favorite things about these (seemingly) small changes is that they make me keep going. So, if I just did something in the kitchen, I’ll want to do something in the dining room tomorrow, you know what I mean? And before I know it, my whole house looks and feels better.

My Favorite Simple Upgrades

Here are a few upgrades I’m sure you’ll be able to pull off and that will make a significant change.

1. Add a Deck to Your Backyard

Okay, so this might not be something you can do yourself unless you’re a professional, but it’s still a simple upgrade and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. I just searched for a deck builder near me online, picked who I wanted to work with and soon enough, my backyard looked better than ever.

A deck is really versatile and I use it for everything. Entertaining, reading, drinking coffee, eating, relaxing, even working out when it’s nice outside. You can’t go wrong with a deck, no matter what size you choose. Being in the fresh air does wonders for your health, and having a deck will encourage you to spend more time outside.

2. Improve Indoor Lighting

This is one of the easiest tweaks to make and it will completely transform the way your home looks and, more importantly, feels.

Get rid of your outdated fixtures and get something modern that suits the aesthetics of your home. I like to layer my lighting, so I got table lamps, floor lamps, and string lights. Trust me, the atmosphere with layered lighting is so cozy, it’s unbelievable. Also, a dimmer switch is a perfect addition because you can adjust the brightness.

3. Organize and Decorate Your Entryways

I feel like the entryway is the space pretty much nobody thinks of, but it’s the first thing you see when you walk into your home, so why not make it look nice? An entryway should be both functional and welcoming.

You probably already have hooks for coats and keys, but think about adding a bench with hidden storage for shoes. My favorite thing for entryways are mirrors – they make them feel so much bigger and brighter.

4. Create a Zone for Relaxing

Everyone needs a space to unwind, so make yourself a dedicated zone for it. Get a cozy chair, a small side table, and some soft lighting and your unused corner is a retreat! If you want to be extra (I know I do), add a plant and an oil diffuser.

Conclusion

If you thought simple, affordable improvements don’t exist, I bet I managed to change your mind! Not only does this take hardly any money, but it’s also quick to do and trust me, you’ll feel like a new person after.

Have fun!
